Boot floor welding for MOT

I'd get it re tested somewhere else where they know what they're talking about. This bloke sounds like a complete arse. If your motor fails, you are allowed to get it re tested at any mot station free of charge within 7 days, normally.

Wrong!

the retest must be done at the same testing station within 10 working day
and it can be charged for up to half the cost of the mot test

My bad, then. I'm sure that used to be the case? Shows how long it is since I had a motor fail an mot! That could well change now I've got a discovery! :D

Just take the seats out...... Problem solved! ;)
think this was mentioned before by someone
if seats were removed, does the tester note this on the MOT ?

Ok, In the end, if yer discos got rot, or lots of rot,
its got to be done sooner or later anyway.

Tis the reason I spent 3 months of my spare time under my disco couple of years ago.
my motto
(but not everyones)
if in doubt, cut it out!

oh, then re fabricate & reweld like an obsessed madman... m:De

I think i seen it on here anorl:confused:

Personally i wouldn't do it.

Quite like your motto although it will probably end in tears if i remember it whilst wielding my angle grinder over the weekend :p

From my experience, and from talking to my "tame" MOT man, If you remove the rear seats, the tester cannot test the rear seat-belt anchoring points.

Although he will note on the MOT certificate as an advisory that there were no rear seats fitted at the time of test.

True story, as I've removed the rear seats in mine, but I use it as a van anyway.

:D

ohh angle grinder an thin bodywork cutting discs - me likey.. ;)

good luck fer the weekend rob,
when I started, then cut out more, then cut out more, then more,
I stood, no, sat down and actually had a mild panic attack
if I sat in the rear seats, I could stand on the ground when I got up...

I had to say to my self, look, its a car, made from sheet metal, its got angles, bends and reveals that are connected by welded lines.
just tackle one section at a time,
and it grew.
not only did it grow, but I clicked on and began reinforcing box sections as I went, even painting with hammerite paint (as i had some odd colours in me shed)

once I had finished, then undercoated, I kept laying on the floor looking at just how much I had done, but kept smiling at my work..

feck it, If ya proud of yer work,
then blow that fecking trumpet eh.. :D

Ok then,just finished.
Patched the boot up in the end to please the Nazi/MOT tester.
Going to take the boot out when the weather gets better, replace straps and rub down/paint up supports. Then going to tac the new floor in.
Also the wheel bearing he failed me on turned out to be the swivel bearing
Took out 4 of the shims tightened it all up again, problem gone!
Have just ordered the new bearing kit to give me something to do next weekend.
:boom:

LOL...........think of it as a learning cruve in the life of landies.

eventually, your MOT man will see you have done the work, and then he wont think of you as a dodgy argumentive eeediot.

to be fair, its his job at the end of the day, and you must have a choice of MOT stations.

would you rather have a dodgy motor with dodgy MOT if you carry family around ?

I use my disco to take my 4 year old grandson to school somedays,
I know the welding work & mechanicle work I have done since the 4 years of ownership is good, even first class...

at times :)

I do sympathise with the OP. Last year my missus too my 110 to Penton Citroen in Christchurch for it's MOT, because according to Sarah, "They were doing them for £25" :doh: What a fook up that was. The guys somehow managed to come up with 2 pages of failures, when I knew at most there were 4 or 5 things that may be a bit suspect. Among the failures were;

Front sills excessively corroded on both sides. (It was actually the bolt on
panels under the drivers and pasenger doors)

Excessive corrosion within 30 cm of front seatbelt mounts. (it was the screw down retaining strip, and the metal backing strip for the bottom door seal)

Handbrake inoperative on rear brakes (WTF??)

No seat belts on rear bench seats (It's a 1986 model, they are not required)

Parking/side lights inoperative on main headlight unit (the main headlight unit is not supposed to come on with the parking/sidelights)

No dashboard illumination with headlights (That is because the dumb #### had turned them off when trying to find the hazard light switch)

Excessive corrosion within 30cm of front body mount (It was the screw in floor panel)

Excessive corrosion within 30cm of centre body mount LHS & RHS, B Pillars holed at bottom (The holes he showed me were the access holes for the hinge bolts on the rear passenger doors)

These were just some of the more laughable failures, there were several others that were just down to the tester being a bit of an arse, rather that outright incompetant.
That afternoon I took the Landy to another tester in bournemouth that charges full price for MOT's, but specialises in Land Rovers. After he had finished laughing at the fail sheet, he MOT'd mine again, and failed it on 3 of the items I thought were suspect and advised on the other 2. I later took that sheet to Penton Citroen and threatened to report them to VOSA. The service manager came down and told me that the mistakes were made because his testers weren't trained to MOT Land Rovers!! He then offered me a full refund of my MOT as a gesture of goodwill.

great news..

we have a great couple of MOT stations here, and one I use more has a couple of guys that are prety clued up on things.
they get quite a few landies come in for MOTs as we have quite a few local farms as you go away from the coast a bit.
but the best news is they race "super rods"
are very succesfull at it,
and take time to talk on things..
oh, they are motor bikers as well, so all bases get covered.

they wont let anything go on tests, but thats the way I think It should be, eh...
