Boot floor welding for MOT

Hi everyone,got a quick question!
Does my replacement boot floor pan have to be welded with a continuous weld or can it be spot welded for its MOT?.
The guy doing the welding says it can be spot but the tester has asked for a weld all around!.

original floor was spot welded in so spot welding for a replacement is acceptable. boot floor is not structural and the seatbelt mounts pass thru the floor but are not reliant on it for structural strength.

Mate you know from my other threads that im having probs with this ####.The guy doing the welding said the same as you.I popped in to see the tester today about a couple of things and he said "you are welding all the way round i hope".
Just dont want to go through all this just for him to fail it because i will proper kick off if he does!

Why didn't you say to him your not welding all the way around, then tell him why so he knows what's going on.

Having probs with him,never again.Paid £50 for the MOT and just need to get it through.Already had a blow up with him about the fuel cap.

If you seam welded a panel that big without dressing out shrinkage as you go(which you cant) distortion would be a big problem

If it was originally made with spot welds it can be replaced with spot welds and visa versa, but if it was originally spoted it can be seamed

If you seam welded a panel that big without dressing out shrinkage as you go(which you cant) distortion would be a big problem

you could always spot it them cover it with seam seal so he cant see the welds

Yes, panel for panel replacement by plug welds etc is correct, cutting and joining a one piece panel is usually seamed if STRUCTURAL

He failed the car on the boot pan being rusty and classed it as seat belt mountings not being structuraly sound!.Im getting propper fed up with it now,MOT runs out on Monday.Going to do some ringing around in the morning using the imfo you guys have given to see if he knows what he is doing.

Seat belt aren't attached toi the floor. They attach to the chassis and pass thru the floor. FFS the floor plate is held in place by a rivet? Ask him how long pop rivets have been classed as structural fixings.

As he isn't allowed to lift the carpet. How the fook is he gonna know what sort of welds have been used anyway?? throw loads of crap in the back so he can't get at the edges of the carpet.

Good point but dont reckon i should be trying to hide something if dose not need hiding!
Im gonna put it in for re test without carpets and sound proofing,if he fails it then i will have out with him,get it tested elsewhere and get my dosh back from him.
Had it up to the eyeballs now,my MG blew a head Gasket coming home from work last night.Bloody Rover is costing me bucks at the moment!.
