Hi,
I pulled my boot carpet back the other day and found a bit of a crusty boot floor.
Its not a problem for me doin the floor, jus wonderin how many of the re inforcers there are, i thought there was 3 but there are only 2 on the paddocks website.
do i have to buy new ones or can i just use some angle iron?

cheers

there's 2 central reinforcers, then there's the strips at front and back that the floor sits on, that's usually easiest to just patch unless it's completely shagged

Angle iron might be a prob as it's pretty close to the tank. U channel with the sides cut down is easiest or get a folder and make ya own.

there are two main cross braces and two strip braces. the strip braces are the ones that are most likley to have rotted but the good news is they are dead easy to make out of 3mm steel.

The strip braces/flimsy ones - are they a legal requirement? The one nearest boot door have made new, but wasn't going to bother with t'other...

Ah ha,

Thanks guys, think i will just order the boot floor and forget about the re-inforcers for the time being, im sure i can fabricate something up!
i think it is the main ones that have rotted through on the top, im gunna have a look to see what i can do to stop it happening again because it has only rotted on the reinforcers, which has obvilously spread!

cheers:)

I put those flimsy things on mine but couldn't help thinking they were a waste of time. What are they supposed to do ?

I didn't even bother with those when I patched the floor. Just patched it all from the top and left the remnants of the supports as they were. Floor seems solid enough and it past the MOT so I was happy.

I think they stop the floor panel resonating, not sure though. I put them on too when I replaced the floor panel on mine a couple of months ago.

From what people have said i dont think i will bother with the flimsy re inforcers as that is where the rust has started from!
Will jus see how strong i think it needs to be when iv got everything all cleaned up!

the boot floor is spot welded to the 'flimsy' cross braces and makes the boot floor more ridged. they might not be very strong when the boot floor is seperated from them but when it is welded it makes a lot of difference to the strength.
i think you can but the main cross braces for the defender/series floors so you might be able to get them for discoveries ? if not you could always get them from some one who is breaking a discovery !
