Boost pressure - possibly dumb question...

I am looking to fit a boost gauge and a couple of others, and have found a set I like. The boost gauge comes in two forms - one called diesel one not. So I suspect I know the answer already, but wanted to check.

The ‘diesel’ one has a range from 0-3 bar whilst the ‘traditional’ goes from -1 to 2 bar... which is most appropriate for the TD5 turbo? Note it has been remapped I believe.

Personally prefer PSI to bar, but that is just a preference.

Petrol shows negative values, because they have a throttle plate, so when the throttle is closed they can build negative boost. Diesels don't do this. Suspect either will work however.

I'm not sure what sort of boost people run on Td5's, suspect it's 14-18psi range, but I guess could be higher. 14.7psi = 1 atmosphere (or 1 bar).

Go with the diesel one. I prefer PSI too, partly because I grew up with it, partly because Bars seem like too small a number to express small gradations at that kind of low pressure.

Thanks :)

Not sure where my preference for bar comes from... I guess it’s from designing pipework systems on the submarines, we work in bar for them... the Americans work in PSI which always makes it interesting lol

My 200tdi in standard tune gets 0.9 bar, I have a diesel one fitted 0-3 and it does the job no problem, even if the boost on a td5 is higher that range should still be more than adequate.

To be honest a boost gauge is one of the most pointless gauges to have, you watch it for a week or so then never give it another glance ever!

Iirc 200tdi is about 0.9 bar.
300tdi 1.0 bar .
td5 just over 1 bar I think if it overboosts it sulks unless you fix a boost controller.

I would completely agree with this, I only have one as the raptor dash plate had three gauge spaces, I have clock and rev counter and needed something to fill the hole! I certainly would not go out of my way to fit one.
