I have the book symbol appearing every time the car is started first thing in the morning. But it goes away for the rest of the day. Here's the sequence:

1) Turn ignition on - no book symbol
2) Start engine - book symbol immediately appears
3) Turn ignition off and back on again - no book symbol
4) Restart engine - no book symbol
5) Rest of day - no book symbol

Am I right in saying that the HEVAC system does not store codes? If so, I am going to have trouble in finding out why the symbol is appearing - if I drive it down to the garage, it won't be there when they restart the car...

Everything seems to work OK - distribution flap and blend motors do - bit hard to test the air con in this weather, but it demists OK so I guess its working. Blend motors and heat exchanger have recently been replaced. Plenty of coolant (perhaps a tad too much?). Air con has recently been regassed.

Battery voltage, perhaps? The car does loads of short runs, and I occasionally get Traction Failure first thing in the morning. But I've never had a book symbol before with a duff battery...

Any ideas?

Book symbol will only appear after Hevac has done it's internal checks. So no symbol when switched on which appears after Hevac does it's checks is normal. Gets the fault codes read. If it goes away. Possibly a sticky blend motor.

I have a similar problem. It goes away for the rest of the day and i note that the air comes out of each correct vent when i push the respective button. However, the there are different temperatures coming out of the vents. ie the left one is hot and the right one is cold. Is this a sticky blend motor or does it need re setting.

Hmmm, interested to see if you find it as mine does similar too. I don't bother turning ignition off as everything appears to work, but if I do the book usually goes. Mine also only does perhaps 1 day in 5 and usually when outside temp is close to zero. I have noticed that the air on passenger side is cooler, but other than that nothing untoward... yet!

Blend motors are a pain. Not only to get to but the central wires to the HEVAC.

Anyone near me that can read the codes on hevac? My book is on but everthing seems to work
A/c prob not as cold as it should be but it still seems to work (recharge in its future)

im having weird boob / no book issues too but the other way around..

start the car and drive all is well.. then after a while i get the book !!!
i have the little 'snow flake' symbol showing too.. does this mean it's in Aircon mode ?
think i prob need a reGas.. would this show as a book fault ?

am also near Leeds / Huddersfield if anyone has a reader and wants to share their knowledge..

thanks charlie

The snowflake symbol means the outside temperature is around freezing or maybe the sensor is duff if it's not cold outside.
Lack of Aircon gas did not give the book symbol on mine, others have said it does. With the light lit on the aircon switch, the aircon is off. Put the system in manual and turn the aircon off and see if the book symbol disappears.

Ahh, got ya.. well guess i might need a Diagnostic session then.. although pretty sure the Aircon gas is low, so might get that checked and see if it fixes it.. if no then i guess could be Blend motors..

im repairing my Audio HU in a week of so with luck.. how deep do i need to delve to check out the Blends ? can i reach enough to squirt some teflon at them with out taking the whole thing apart if they are just sticky ??

cheers

Do a search, big job. Check also Rangerovers.net where there is a walk through.
Low aircon gas may be the condensor, it's a common failure item.
