me (80 plus) old man has just been round with his disco 300tdi... couldnt get the bonnet open... anyway i pulled the knob and it opened.... quite a tug to do it though, ive squirted wd40 round both ends of the cable and the catch itself which has made it a bit easier.... hes been dropping the bonnet about a foot to get it to latch properly.... after the oil i can shut it by leaning hard on it... a lot harder than on my 200tdi....
is there any way to adjust the catch both to make it easier to latch and to lessen the pull needed on the cable to open it.? the haynes manual isnt helpful

spray the cable several more times and spray white grease on the latch mechanism at all pivot points and the bonnet hinges should make easier for you Sir. Good day to you

Might pay to check if the 'spike' on the bonnet has been 'bent'.

It don't have to be out by much, you know trying to shut the bonnet and left a hammer or summat on the slam panel and ping the bugger won't shut easy, give it a look.

The cable on mine is quite stiff. Takes quite a tug to open it, and then i make sure i push it back in again. Otherwise it doesn't always spring back and then the bonnet doesn't catch shut when i try to close it.
