Dear All

To cut a long story short, my beautiful LandRover 110 (2014) was squashed in a low level underground car park.

As a result, there is quite a bit of damage to the rear left hand side of the roof and the top of the rear boot panel has buckled (see photos - please don't laugh).

In another twist, again another long story, the Insurance company went from covering the damage, to uncovering it to cancelling my policy (the quote they had for the repair was £10,000).

I lost a bloody fight with them and so am now left to cover the damage myself (with a new insurer who understandably won't cover previous accidents).

I am in the London area, but happy to travel anywhere where anyone might know of a good independent body repairer who will not charge an insane amount of money!

Hi Mate buy a 2nd hand roof off ebay or the likes & get a body shop to paint it & fit it or fit it yourself its an easy job

As said above, the roof un-bolts from the sides and windscreen, it is potentially a DIY job, so shouldn't be a massive job for a professional.
I would try and find a Land Rover specialist to fit the roof rather than a normal car body shop, although the latter would probably be better for the paint.
If you want it done for reasonable money, for god's sake don't tell any one you have been quoted £10k to fix it.

Aye, easy to swap the roof.
Very easy for a panel beater to sort too though. Days work? Most money will be on respray IMO. Nowhere near 10K

£10k is bullsh1t

Get a second hand roof, get it painted then fit - old unbolted and new bolts on. Just swap over all the headlining gubbins.

Or get a panel beater/body shop to give you a quote to fix, that dent could be pulled out then filled and painted for a LOT less that £10k

Did the insurers write it off?
If so, take an agreed avlue from them and then buy it back by offering them a ouple of hundred quid.
The difference should pay for all the bits you need and a shiny new paint job!
The Bay of Fleas can be a very good friend n circumstances like yours.

A 2013 roof? You might get one second hand. 10K? Thats crazy money, and I wouldn't bother with a ''specialist'' just to fit a roof, it isnt rocket science, any decent Indi can do that and most will know a body shop to paint it, it still wont be cheap, but it wont be anywhere near 10k.

Is the rear door and sides all in good shape? Nothing bent or twisted? The tub didn't take any of the hit did it?

To put it into perspective, 60ph labour, 72 with the VAT, half a day or a day to strip and fit, a roof can be anything but I would expect to pay anything up to 500 quid for one with alpine windows in good condition, a decent paint job 2 - 3 hundred, factor in new seals etc , bits and bobs and you have another couple of hundred, you really want genuine parts on that, then you have logistics unless you can source a roof locally and have it delivered, if the garage has to collect they will charge you their hourly rate. Then this will all only apply if the sides arnt twisted or bent, if they are they will need sorting. Its not as bad as it sounds, its nut and bolt work, but you want it to be right.

From my experience, the crash repair companies that insurance companies align themselves with are not used to dealing with Landys. Better getting to the guy up the road who fixes the farmer's tractors - better all round understanding of what's really required and quicker parts supply. Why did your insurer not pay? Can you not go to the ombudsman and complain?
