Hi everybody. I don't currently own a Landy (I previously purchased a Disco 2.5 ES back in 1996 brand new...I was very unhappy with the finish and the service from my local official LR dealership). Despite that from the last sentence I still love Landies but especially older series models.

So, with that in mind may I enquire about bodywork on series 2a and very early 3 models? Is it possible to transfer the bodywork from a 9 seater or even fully enclosed LWB van type model onto a SWB or are there chassis mount problems? I ask this because it seems I am passing up the chance of plenty of SWB models in favour of the right LWB coming up. Some of these being pick up type Landies which is absolutely no good for me (I want ti for stowing my fishing gear in and possibly sheltering in from the lovely British weather...rain! Can anybody help? Please :)

the small matter of the different chassis lengths will be an issue

Hmm, I thought this may be the case :( So, what is the possibility of fitting say a van type body to a pick LR? Not just an enclosed back but a full top half taking the front cab off? If I do get a SWB then I may need to remove the front passenger seat in order to carry equipment inside the LR.

I know of a really nice k-registration 1972 109 "estate" ten seater coming up for sale up here is scotland-land soon. I think he's wanting £2500 for it but I'm sure you'd get it for less. Full rebuild 8 years ago.

That sounds just about perfect to me...barring one thing. It's about 400 miles+ too far away :( Thank you for thinking of me with that one though. Now, if only the same or similar could be somewhere down here instead... I should explain. I'm riddled with arthritis so can't travel very far. It's also a reason I am looking for this type of LR. I need to make some form of bed facility in the rear. That way, when the pains start I can simply pull over somewhere safe and lie down for a couple of hours after washing a couple of painkillers down. It's just one of those things but why did it have to afflict me so early in ,my life? At 45 I've been suffering form this for 10 years now and it isn't rheumatoid (for which there are some treatments and more on the horizon) it's osteo.

Ah well, thank you again.

thing is with arthritis, do you REALLY want something with no power steering, and non-servo assisted brakes? At least it has the delux seats!!

I drove it (the 1972 beast in question) last year to argyll (abaout 200 miles round trip) and had the worst sciatica known to man for about a week afterwards.

I've been led to believe that the steering lock is called a chain through the steering wheel and then through a door post.... :) Good as anything and probably better than most factory fitted steering locks.
