BMW M57D30, will it fit?

Hi i'm new to these forums and i start with a big question. i recently purchased a 1987 110 with a 2.5 diesel non turbo (not the most powerfull, economic or refined) and have been looking for a replacement and have found an insurance write off bmw 530dwith running engine. my basic question is will it fit? the engine is a 3litre straight six turbo diesel with 181 hp @4000, 290 lb·ft @1750-3200 it has only done 57,000miles and is good for 200,000 with servicing so please tell me its gd news.

I'd say you can fit anything into anything - i.e. Chevy big block into minis etc. It just depends on the amount of work that'll be required. I s'pose the main questions are - will the bulkhead need remodelling due to the size of the bimmer lump, how will you mate it to the gearbox and where will you put all the electrickery to stop it from getting all wet.

Sounds like a good, but big, project. Good luck!
