What can cause a sudden rocker gasket to blow? I thought that it was something that went gradually but one day mine was fine and no leeks and the next there was oil everywhere. Any idea what can cause it?

many thanks

Which engine you got?

The back of my 90 is covered in oil after the breather pipe connecting the oil filler to the crank case got blown off! (bit of a mess)

Main reason is old engines building up pressure in the sump due to gases bypassing the rings. - The reason mine went (on a 2.5TD) was because the breather pipe to the air-intake was put back on without removing the blanking plug i put in to the air intake line (it was not me that did this :) ) - Best thing to do it check that the breather pipes have not become blocked / if you have a old engine then maybe remove the breather pipe from the air intake. - You will get a puff of smoke ever so often from under the bonet mind you. - Blank off the air intake unless you want water/mud/etc in there :)
