My Land Rover badged battery seems to have given up the ghost after a 3-4 day spell of very cold weather/wind.

It's an 05 plate TD4.

Got in this morning and had a fantastic array of flashing dash lights when turning the ignition on.

Got the Fluke out quickly and it registered just 8.64v !!!!!

My "intelligent" (multistage) battery charger wouldn't even try and charge it, going into "fault" condition when trying.

So, I used an ordinary charger to get the voltage up to about 12v and then put the intelligent one back in. Will leave it all night, at least.

Her indoors is not best pleased as our Valentines "eat all you can Indian Curry" for tonight will be attended in biker gear !

You've got to laugh.....

(By the way, have been quoted £72.32 including VAT from Pro Parts in Waterlooville. 2 year guarantee Pldham badged. I've used them many times in the past with no probs).

8 years thats poor , Mine lasted 9 years before dying :D

Bosch batterys are good but you want the heavy duty silver one ?

If you have a trade card for halfords try there first for a price. As a general rule the trade card will get about 50% discount on batteries around £100, the 4 I have bought in the past ranged from £90-110 and never paid more than about £60 for them.

The OE fit battery will always outlast the cheaper replacements that many people tend to fit and then they complain when the replacement doesn't last as long!
Eyeing up a Bosch S5 for the 90 when that one decides to give up the ghost, in fact I may just replace the batteries on my 90 and my wife's Freelander (2006 TD4) before next winter just in case. The last thing I want is for one of them to let go during a really cold spell, especially as neither car is used daily and may be parked up for a week at a time. The battery on the 90 is 8-years old and the Freelander 7-years so I think we have got our money worth!
The battery on my bike (BMW GS) is nearing 10-years old and still going strong.:D

PS.
Don't forget to weigh in your old battery to get some money back. Took a pair of leisure batteries down to the merchants last week (from my dad's motorcaravan), weighed in at 50KG and got £20.

The price I quoted above was for the S3. (3 year warranty). Not sure I can afford an S4 (or will have the hippo that long).

And no Halfords trade card !... :-(

Does anyone run optima red tops in there freelander? They pricey, but the quality is there for the price.

Where do you live mate? If your close I will pop to halfords with you to get a trade price this weekend if you want?

Waiting for mine to fail ! Its not bosch or a L R , but i presume its the oem battery , as i had to replace the clamp two years ago due to the bolt being seized , at least it wont take so long to replace :D

Blood hell, you're right. Take of 15% discount for spending more than £75 and the total is £73.94 !!!

Excellent deal, cheers :amen:

Update - charged off car all night and it went into a maintenance charge condition after reaching fully charged status.

Put back on car and all's well.

However, we have close to zero temps at present (ideal for taking out a duff cell), so I'll leave for a couple of days and try again. Will update further.

Now it's £81.54 - £10.00 = £71.54, excellent.
