I've had an orrible clonkin coming from under the front of me deepender fer about a month. Had a good look and found play in the front UJ and the front diff input bearing. Also me CVs have been clickin on full lock, me swivel balls are a bit pitted / leaking and me front discs are nearing their service limit. Oh, and me track rod's a bit bent.

So, I decided to do a complete refurb job on me front axle. Replacement Diff (with new bearing and seal), new CVs, new swivels, new wheel bearings, new discs, new track rods / ends and all new seals / gaskets. Also, new UJs on the prop.

I need to do the job in stages, because I can't have the landy off the road for too long because I'm busy with the pheasants.

I've collected all the parts together (£400 worth!) and made a start today.
I've refurbished the spare diff and removed the front prop, ready to replace the UJs tomorrow.

This evening, I went down to feed the pheasants in Mondo mode and the fookin thing's clonking just as much as it did when the bastidin front prop was on!

Must be the friggin transfer box! Grrrrrrrrr.

Now, if I gorra do the T/F box, I might as well do the gearbox and clutch as well.

WHERE DOES IT FRIGGIN END???

I have a transfer box here doin nowt that i took out of my defender to put the disco one in if its any use. From what I have used of it, it all works ok

i am the same, once i removed my rear prop diff and shafts and having to drive it in diff lock i get **** load of clunking, i know the uj's are bad so ill do them and see how it goes, failing that bearing and diff in from axle.
if all else fails then the slack has to be in the transfer.
