There's a concrete platform (about a foot or so high) outside my local
supermarket that used to have a bronze sculpture on top of it before
some lowlife stole it. It's right beside the entrance, and my Series
will park on top of it quite happily, but it gets some *really* funny
looks when you park there. So far nobody has told me to move along and
Mr Plod has left me alone.

The possibilities would appear to be :-
Class 37 http://www.freefoto.com/preview.jsp?id=23-12-26
Class 47 http://www.page27.co.uk/nwales/news/gt2303-47793.jpg
Class 56 http://www.freefoto.com/preview.jsp?id=23-14-2
Class 60 http://www.freefoto.com/preview.jsp?id=23-17-2
Class 66 http://www.freefoto.com/preview.jsp?id=23-18-46
Class 67 http://www.freefoto.com/preview.jsp?id=23-19-4

Given you said it looked like a Deltic, I'd be guessing on a Class 37
(since both 37s and Deltics have "noses"[1])?

[1] They also have interchangeable bogies, but let's not go there! ;-)

37s are a nice thing too, lovely big fat diseasel noise. although I thought
there were more 47s around than 37s, these days - however, I've not had the
ickle book of train numbers for ages, so I could be wrong.

that's a nice site, though this bit
http://www.freefoto.com/browse.jsp?id=23-45-0
and some of the photos on the scrap sidings of older locos are a bit sad

I think that's the one, silly me! Still make a noise you wouldn't believe!

My wife refers to the Multipla as the "Robin Cook Car" - she reckons it
looks like Robin Cook would if you turned him into a car for some reason.

Discoveries have a wheelbase 20cm (8") shorter than a Ford Mondeo with a
narrower track (1mm at the front, 27mm at the rear) and are around 27mm
shorter than the Mondeo.

So, what we have is the S1 and S2 Disco being an overall shorter, narrower
car than the epitome of "Family Saloon" the Ford Mondeo. Anybody fancy
taking these numbers to the Lord Mayors office of London?

Does explain why I have an easier time parking these days than some family
car drivers )

is it on a bank? they would make a fair noise at full chat. Personally,
although there's none of the "romance of steam" about it, the bark from the
exhausts of these medium-speed diesels as they move off from rest has a
certain something about it which was lacking from the fairly-high-speed V12s
in the HST (aka intercity 125), turbo whine or no. And on some of the
latter, these days, the turbine whine is more of a scream.

Mind, the deltic makes a beautiful noise, as evinced nicely in that sound
clip I found and posted a link to the other day of the one coming into a
station and then accelerating away.

yeah. Mind you, I always put that down to superior operator skill, meself.
The only thing the saloons gain on is steering lock angles, and even then,
they don't gain as much as you'd expect with FWD ones. One of the nice
things about the 4x4 sierra is that since it started life as a RWD, the
steering angles are much better. Don't suppose it does the front CV joints
much good mind, but it don't half turn nicely.

Nope, they just go right through the station, but the noise is crazy!

The noise is a nice noise, but very loud!

yebbut, I bet they don't grow on trees, nor do I expect I could get and

Nope, an original 110IIb with 2.6 engine, 17.000km in very neat
condition for 2500¤ :)

I have to sell because I don?t have the time and storage capacity for
him. He has new brakes, a new brake master, new half shaft and a new
battery.

I didn't mean yours was a Santana. I was just speculating about Santanas.
However, didn't locate any in a quick websearch. found plenty of references
to some pop group or other.

nor any obvious source of the Santana 2000 which was a replacement for the
earlier one.

I like your one, but I doubt it's viable - the IoE 6 is not ideal for a
start, being as it's getting iffy from the spares point of view.

I know, I know I bought mine just because of the very low mileage
(kilometrage) ;-)) and because its in very good condition.
