There's a clue in the title what I've been saying most of today! Well something like it anyway.

1971 classic, master and slave cylinder looks as original as can be. Over the past few days noticed fluid a little low and pedal a bit spongy. Tried bleeding it today and can't get anything now. Have bled it at the master end and down at the business end. Fluid coming through but still nothing.

Is there anything quirky in how this should be done other than the usual down pedal, slacken, tighten, up pedal method?

Best bet is pressure bleeding as the master cylinder stroke/delivery barely matches the capacity of the slave cylinder. Had the same problem on a 3.5 disco (Same setup) and th pressure bleeder sorted it out straightaway as it gives a constant fluid pressure to the system irregardless of the pedal operation, plus you can bleed it single handed. After putting almost a litre of fluid through it the conventional way, without bubbles, put the pressure bleeder on and one almighty stream of air came out and next minute the pedal feel and operation was back.

Just tried the pressure bleeder and once again a dribble came through. Slight pedal then away again. My fear is the slave could be away and throwing fluid inside the bellhousing. Although in fairness not much fluid came out of the bottle. Probably try again tomorrow with a fresh mind. Maybe take the slave off and check for any dampness.

Another bit of info. The engine and gearbox is a 1992 unit married up to the original master cylinder. I suppose it is just the single pipe between the two anyway so it should just bleed through normally.

Success. It bugged me so went out and tried it again. Connected it all up, sputtered for a second then pure fluid, tightened the screw and the pedal is back. (I'll get to the show on Sunday now!) Thanks for the advice.
