P38A bleedin' coolant

the stuff I have in at the mo is bluecol oe48 which is ethylene glycol based, the owners manual says that stuff, so I'm going to buy some more today to top it up and hopefully get back to approx 50/50
Just got to work and engine stayed happy 21.2mpg on the dash too

Wonder if it was related to that strange sealant you found?

The blockage? I blew it into a container and it was just gunge! Thinking remnants of stop leak that had been added by the PO

As far as I'm aware, all the petrol p38's should have the pink oat stuff, not blue.

Think it can change with manufacturer. ^^^^ this guy also has a 4.0 (you asked other day about Thor) and knows his stuff.

Without wishing to tempt fate, is just like to add, the britpart expansion tank seems of similar quality to OEM and so far can't fault it

Coolant pressurised once more!! After many trouble free trips!!!

I'm hoping this time it's down to one of the lpg vapourisers leaking gas into the coolant, is that likely?

I've turned the LPG off at the tank, hopefully that should point the finger

Or a coolant leak losing pressure causing it to boil.

Something else to check!

Thinking about it, it never once went above 95c and that was when i was stuck in traffic so unlikely boiled

do V8s have a viscous fan??

If that’s duff it could heat up in slow traffic or when stopped

Assuming the gauge is accurate, no pressure means it will boil at 100C and the temperature varies throughout the block

will the coolant not change the boiling point of the water?
I don’t know what temperature a 4.0 Thor runs at.

Not much

So it’s mainly for corrosive resistance more than cooling effect?

Will raise the boiling point a bit. As will the pressure. Not a lot of difference to cooling.

Pressure affects the boiling point, antifreeze is just to, er, stop it freezing! Plus all the additives to stop corrosion etc
