Had any nice sand storms out there lately? Sand blocks up EVERYTHING!I'm getting black smoke and oil's spewing outta the exhaust..
help...
and ever since the expulsion of smoke.. the mileage has decreased drastically.. getting 200 km for a full tank ( 15 US gallons)
But NEVER run without one out there. the sand will eat your engine. I've known people out inthe desert change their air filter every two weeks, they clog up so quickly. That's one reason LR used to fit oil bath filters, that can be cleaned out regularly.THROW AWAY THE CLOGGED AIR FILTER!
Fit a new one.

Sorry, my knowledge doesn't extend that far. Basically, a filter is a matrix of fine holes to let air through but trap gunge. The sand will block the holes and you need to change the filter. Might be worth investigating to see if there is a washable filter available. First thing to do is to change it and see if it cures the problem! Any cheap filter will do at this stage.reckon a K&N filter would be good enough??
Did you put a NEW air filter element in? If so and no improvement, the mechanics are probably right. The other thing which often causes black smoke is degraded HT leads. They tend to go and need replacing after about 40000 miles. But it wouldn't happen suddenly.mechanics ae saying could be the fuel injector, Air mass flow meter, 1 or 2 cylinders not working...arrrghhh
Can't see why you asked for our advice if you didn't take it. CharlesY knows more about landrovers than anyone else on the planet. Changing the air filter is such an obvious starting point, and takes a few seconds. Your "mechanics" may be right, but I wouldn't take their expensive advice without checking the obvious first.no..i did not get the air filter changed.. and some times the engine misfires....this car is ****ed..
