mt td4 freelander chucks out a lot of black smoke when you kick it down and accelerate hard...no power loss...goes well...just smoke.its had a full service with oil air and feul filters changed, turbo pipes look ok..where do i look next?

Have you looked ad the breather at the rear of the engine ,as it can clog up. I changed mine for a BMW one which doesn't require cleaning. It is not necessarily your problem but should be done. I think it may be a delaminating turbo hose causing the smoke, easy to find if you remove one end of each and check the condition internally of each one.

It does sound like the symptoms of choked breather filter, they cost peanuts and easy to change so its a good starting point. If this is the problem, it will start to lose power soon if not changed and can eventually cause damage to turbo.

Totally agree....... Unless you have a roveron box fitted and set on max as this will give the same symptoms.
