apologies, I was just trying to make out whether he has a 98my or 99my. I just see where he siad it was a 1999 T but he hasn't come back witha chassis prefix to confirm.

I've heard that said before about post 99 being a different pump, where is that info coming from? There's nothing in RAVE about that, The Petrol system changed completely in 99 but to the best of my knowledge the Diesel pump didn't.
This is the same case with the report that the omega engine had 160bhp when it didn't, There was a late edition with a common rail diesel with 148bhp but the normal TD version that is interchangeable with the P38 had 130bhp.

common rail are you sure

Yeah, from what I can find, in 1999 for the Omega B Facelift model they brought out a 148bhp 2.5 DTI model which sold alongside the 131bhp 2.5 TD (BMW M51D25 engine). I believe the DTI was a common rail engine. I don't know if it was developed by Opel themselves or a de-rated M57 BMW engine.

The only place I can find a 160bhp engine is the M57D25 engine fitted to the 525d which would have all the same problems to fit as a 530d engine so not worth the hassle when you can have a 3.0L.

What is the model code (part of your VIN the two-letters before the last six numbers) WA?
Sorry Lads been away at the weeknd and just read the posts. Chassis number is SALLPAMW7WA******
I don't think it's had an engine, however, it is a manual and the log book has it down as an auto. Can't see why anyone would ever go to that hassle so I assume its an error on the logbook.
Did a check on it before I bought it and all was well. Last owner had it for 5 years and I know his brother who serviced it in that time and no engines were fitted to it.

W7WA = 2.5L BMW Engine (W), 5 speed manual RHD (7), 98 model year(W), made in Solihull (A)

So the log book is wrong (thats if the logbook and Chassis no. match ;).
Could you take a photo of the engine bay for us to have a look.
If you look at the photo the guy with the 3 series BMW posted yesterday you'll see the EGR valve on the rad end of the manifold. Maybe someone removed your EGR, I'd be interested to see how they managed it.

I'll get a photo of it tonight.
I'm pretty sure the log book is wrong. It's down in the service manual as a manual and there is a sales receipt for it from a main dealer as a manual.

Just looked at the photo you mentioned. Mine definately doesn't have and EGR. The pipe comes off the intercooler and straight into the manifold.
You say that my chasis number is for 98 (W) am I right in thinking that as it is actually a "T" plate that this is common for the vehicles manufatured in that year?
Took some photos at dinner time on my phone so here they are.

Thats odd, you don't have a MAF or MAP either. Maybe yours was at the end of a production run or something. I don't know enough about the changeover in production but my T reg 98MY RR has the 99 engine with EGR, MAP sensor etc.
Check the two bolts sticking out of the bulk head just left of the EAS box and see if you can make out if an EGR control was ever bolted on there. Although judging by the rest of it I'd say its as it left the factory.

I noticed that it didn't have a MAF sensor either. Would imagine it to be a pain to remove that and EGR and get it to run so would say its came out of the factory like that.

Yeah, looks like that alright.

Back to the smoke, since you've not got an EGR at least that eliminates that! Is it still ok since you refitted the breather?

Other sources of smoke are a blocked up air filter and, unfortunately, a failed seal on the turbo, is it using much oil?

It seems fine since I refitted the breather pipe. Theres a small amount of smoke from the exhaust when I put my foot down but only whats normally expected from a diesel. It uses barely any oil. I only do about 5K a year and between services every 12 months don't have to add any oil or a very small amount if that.

When you bought the car you didn't query that the V5 said auto, but its a manual?

The engine is a pre-WA engine, it has an aluminium inlet manifold, these didn't have the EGR or MAF, it used other trickeries to work out fuel delivery. The XA models had a new ECU, but believe most other bits were unchanged.

Is the engine number the same as that written on the V5? There might be a sticker with engine number on the offside rear of the camshaft cover, otherwise bit of a pain to find it on the engine block.

I did query it and the last owner said they hadn't noticed it!! The numbers on the V5 match the number on the slam panel and in the windscreen. I did a car history check before I bought it and all showed up ok with no reported accidents or history.
I'm going to contact the DVLA as this is an obvious error on their behalf as the VIN number states its a manual.
