Hi guys

We are going to the Billing Land Rover fest in August in our 90 and want to do the off road course as its years since we last did it in my then s111 swb but then we didn't do the swamp but this time we do so my question is what do others do as re-guards the grill / radiator from getting covered in mud / sludge.

i wouldn't normally be bothered if it was just a river crossing as its mainly water but the swamp at Billing is full of thick sludge so what would you suggest :)

I've not been to billing but would a wading blanket / radiator muffin be your best bet? Deflect alot of it from coming in the front at least.

I've not driven the billing course but I would give the swamp a miss.
Muddy water is like grinding paste and it will get in to all the moving parts and fill the chassis with mud.

here's a vid of last yrs mud run...

If you've not got a big intercooler, taking the grill off will help the jetwasher get it all, if you have got a big intercooler it's a right PITA to get it all out. Heard a few had to stop on the way home overheating. I didn't think hours of cleaning was worth the hours of queing for 5 mins in the mud, not when I can play all day at Yarwell and clean it driving through relatively clean water.

Just avoid the 'swamp' section, enjoy driving through the edge of the lake instead in cleaner water :)

Wow, I've just seen a video of that one:

From about 1:00 onwards.

I'm very tempted to go this year. If you've driven that route, is a Freelander 2 going to make the lake (500mm wade height only)?

Unfortunately, I won't be getting my Disco for another month! :(

Is the event worth the trip?
