BEWARE WHEN DEALING THROUGH EBAY

I'd say that isn't true at all. Often they are cheaper via ebay than buying direct. You need to check. Places like Paddocks are often cheap, but unless you spend enough to get the free shipping, you can usually buy on ebay for less total outlay.

As for buyer protection, if you use PayPal you will get the same cover from almost anywhere you shop.
I purchased a part for my BMW on eBay. It arrived within 2 days and is genuine BMW, also from a main dealer.
It cost 33 sovs all in, 77 sovs from my local main dealer.
 
I always check evilbay against maltings paddocks etc sometimes a huge difference on the same part, have bought parts that have just gone straight back, using ebay less and less bought head set from evilbay for tdv6 one head gasket and one set of bolts turned up refused to send others clearly person who did ad didn't know it was a v6 was accused of being a scammer head gaskets same flavor can be 50% more than maltings check around, but from people you trust through your experiences little bits and Bob's I buy when doing a bigger order so not to pay postage
 
Frankly speaking working in the myriad of warehouses and distribution, you be amazed how any goods safely get to customers.🙃
My bet noir are Amazon through royal mail sorting as a worker I think there shoddy and cheap. The rush for instant purchase lends to cheapest way of handling. And by handling the opportunity to thefts. That's why Amazon and like a few other larger ones are quick to accept returns or shortages on orders.
When I ordered from Amazon, I prefer the used or returns items suchlike, they're majority in good condition as books inks computer garden tools etc.
 
My partner was having work done on her P38 including new calpers and brake pipes,so we ordered all on line,no problem with the calipers but when the brake pipes from foundry4x4 arrived the blister pack had been opened and 4 pipes were in the pack,my partner was not aware that there should be 6 and notified foundry4x4 that the garage could not fit the pipes as they were too short,she then notified the problem to foundry4x4 who requested the VIN no which was supplied and nothing further heard from foundry4x4.
She then started a return via ebay and foundry4x4 have deducted an amount
for the pipes they never sent
As we have witnesses to what was delivered we are taking this up with other than ebay.
So photo any deliveries to prove if you are being conned.
I've dealt with Foundry on several occasions and found them to be good. They also turn up at shows too. Possibly be at Stoneleigh next month.
 
I stopped using Evri, after items I sent, went missing or arrived damaged. Now I use RM all the time now.
That's the good thing about eBay, as a buyer, you are pretty well protected.
I wonder if the thieving cnuts thought my brake cleaner was that Nitro's gas that the brain dead use.

I've heard that the Hippy Crack was going to be made illegal soon, can't wait, our dead-end is full of twunts and balloons at night ,,,
 
Same thing happened to me. I ordered 4 cans of brake cleaner and when they arrived (via what used to be Hermes) the packaging was open at two points. There was only 3 cans.
I took photos and it's been sorted, but these thieving barstewards seem to get away with pilfering peoples property.
How much time have we got??

They are a bunch of useless B**tards!
I ordered a stirrup pump to pressurise my air rifle from one seller and a sight mount from another. They were both delivered by the same Evri twit who left the pump standing upright leaning against my front door. The sight mount(which would have fitted through the letter box) was on the doorstep behind it. According to the email asking how crap, sorry, WELL did our driver do, they were left in a secure location. Considering i live opposite a bus stop and i have three dustbins ten feet to the left of my front door i can't think of a more UNsecure location to leave a parcel!
Then i paid £160 to the Royal British Legion for this year's Poppy bits. Again delivered by Evri. Again only learned they had delivered when i read the 'how did our driver do' email. as it was about 2am on a Thursday morning and delivery was the previous Sunday, i didn't go outside and check. Instead i fired off emails to the Poppy Shop and Evri informing both that i had not received the parcel.
The next morning i checked and found the parcel by the bins. I picked it up and then posted it through my letter box!!!!!
I told the Poppy Shop i'd found it. Then had a go at Evri via emails about why did their driver dump it outside instead of posting it? Why can't they leave a card saying 'your parcel is by the bins' or wherever. I was told that their drivers can't do that because they use an automated dlivery system. THAT enraged me somewhat... And lead to me sending an email something like this:

Do you honestly believe that crap or do you really think the public are dumb enough to believe that? I stupidly thought that your system consisted of a driver collecting their pre-loaded van, driving around to addresses, pulling up outside, getting out, rummaging in the back to find the parcel, walking up to the front door and knocking. Clearly i was wrong!
Instead, your automated delivery system consists of a person loading up the van, said van then drives itself automatically around the country, pulls up outside of the property, a side door opens, a cannon is automatically loaded and then the parcel is fired at the building before the door closes and the van drives away to the next customer's address!
By the way, i don't expect a reply to this email

The last delivery by Evri, again i only found out they'd delivered it from their 'how did our driver do' email resulted in me losing £8.87 for a keyless chuck for my tapping gun at work. The seller, who has English as their third, maybe fourth language refused to send a replacement chuck for the one that i never received and Paypal told me to sod off too as there was proof of delivery.
This proof of delivery was a picture of a map of my road with a 'symbol' near my house. I could make one up myself! I was expecting a photo of it on my doorstep or something! There are videos from doorbell cameras of their drivers putting the parcel on the doorstep, taking a picture for POD and then picking it up and walking back to their van with it in their hands!
So i too am NOT an Evri fan!!!
 
In reference to the "wonderful" rebranded Evri, I too have found them the most untrustworthy courier company in existence. I purchase a fair amount via Ebay and generally have no issues, but Evri deliveries are the exception. I buy old broken laptops amongst our general tat to amuse myself trying to get them operational when in the rare occasion our wonderful Scottish climate halts my vehicle maintenance outside, in the last 2 months had 3 of these laptops go "missing" with Evri and 1 "damaged in transit, it arrived in a plastic bag in pieces!!!! Would love to have seen the thieving C$£%S face thinking he had scored big time with a laptop to open it then plug it in finding a broken early 2000's relic hahaha. Now if a seller actually states they use Evri/Hermes will not purchase no matter how much I want/need the item as it isn't worth the hassle. Spoke to ebay their answer " sellers responsibilty "
I've gone further. I ask which company they use to deliver parcels. If it's Herpes, or Evri, i tell them i'll buy elsewhere as i don't want the agro when the parcel doesn't arrive.
 
JUST TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE,WE ORDERED A DIESEL HEATER ON EBAY and yes you got it,delivered by Evri left outside at wrong address in the rain,now I know why they changed their name to,Because Evri delivery is a cock up.
When Herpes announced their new name on Twitter one of the replies was "is that because you lose EVRI parcel?"

Euro Car Parts do that. Selling parts on ebay cheaper than in the shop. MInd you they also sometimes have discounts so cheap that Joe Public can buy parts cheaper than the trade can. My cousin had some customers asking why they were charging so much for parts? When he showed them on his computer how much he had actually paid the customer said that he could get them cheaper over the counter. So Gary when to the usual website and was gobsmacked! His customer was right. After the customer had left he had a rather abusive telephone call with Euro. He stopped using them.

Yes I suppose if someone is trying to get rid of old stock or has too much stock they will put it on at near or under cost price to get rid of it, I have done that before. But it depends if you want to be a faceless customer buying from a faceless supplier, purely on price or a proper customer. I had a customer a few years ago order a fuel filter. It cost about £10 and he realised he'd ordered the wrong part so he called and we sorted it out, and had quite a lengthly conversation about Land Rovers in general. Fast forward a few years and we get along very well, he spends about £10-15k a year, always contacts me for a quote for parts on his jobs (so always gets good prices) and recently we sent out a little Lego set and card for his sons 3rd birthday. All from a mis-ordered fuel filter. If you build up some sort of relationship with your supplier they will look after you, and in turn you'll become a good customer for them. If you just want to be someones order number because they were the cheapest then that's how you'll be treated, and quite honestly it's a race to the bottom at the moment with Land Rover parts prices in general and some LR parts companies are getting pretty desperate. Land Rover owners don't realise how lucky they are with prices compared to the rest of the commercial vehicle market. As I don't sell cheap/BP rubbish I don't get all the problems that come with it, I have good quality customers buying good quality parts, and not via eBay. Plus I don't have to deal with returns because we don't get them!

Trouble is, most people buying a fuel filter are unlikely to be spending £10,000 - 15,000 on parts a year. That has to be an exception rather than the norm. And if you are buying £10-15k's worth of parts per year. Chances are you won't be grooming eBay for one off deals.

Have used many parts suppliers over the years. Some local, some online. Sadly, while you might have a chat at a local supplier. It rarely means you'll get a good price and a number of places will just take the **** and claim they are doing you a deal, but are still very expensive. My Uncle, who has been running Land Rovers for for over 50 years encountered this recently. A local parts supplier who he new quite well and has bought from many times. Did a deal on some new shocks. Claiming they would be xx price, but they'd offer discount to bring them down to xx.

Sounded good, so he bought them. I checked later on and could have bought them online with free delivery for 15% cheaper than he paid.
