So I have a couple of options, they all involve a bit of saving and working as much as possible.

Option 1 - Keep my Disco which needs the following done...

A front wing,

Sills and rear arches replaced,

New suspension put on (have it already just needs fitted)

A respray, I'm not really interested in rollering it myself. The quotes so far are £1000 to spray it in a solid colour or £1800 in the original metallic.

Option 1 a) after that's all done, be happy with it
Option 1 b) punt it hoping to recoup everything i just spent and move on.

Option 2 -

Keep mine ticking over, running, but not spending a fortune on it while I save for a newer (td5) discovery then when i finally get that sell mine as a project, since it's welding and painting it needs, mechanically it's sound.

I'm worried that I'm too emotionally attached to it and I'd end up throwing so much money into it when I could have bought something newer with less work needing done.

I can't help looking at td5's though. My only concern was at B&W show we had 200's, 300's and a D3 but no D2's :scratching_chin: Are they just in that middle range between enthusiasts and people (bump) who has the luxury of getting something newer and more reliable.

I might just be thinking out loud but I keep toing and froing on this, I know I want a Discovery but I don't know if it's fair to lust after others while mine is sat there.

I have a D1 and D2, I would spend my money on the D2 all day long.

Its such an improvement over the D1 even more so if its a cherished vehicle, my D2 has never been off road and never will be in my ownership its why I have a D1.

If I had to keep one of them only it would be the D2 all day long, as good as my D1 is and with the off road improvements its a very competent off roader but its just not as good to live with as the D2.

Once you make the jump to a D2 you won't look back providing it doesn't breakdown alot ;)

it's a bunch of metal and rust.how can you be attached to it.get rid before it blows away in the wind.get a decent td5.;)

If its a D1 you will never ever justify spending big money on it, it will forever be rusting away on you, I had a mint one, and it still rusted away on me, as Gemsdad said its your first and you will end up fitting it in a fkn paint tin, with a brush and dust pan, as Fanatic said you are in the spend as least as you can to keep it roadworthy, or sell before its just scrap.look on ebay they worth less than the price of a new set of tyres for them

It's worth more than scrap but I'm not going to rely on getting X amount for it to part fund the next one.

I'll save until I can afford to buy something out right (never getting credit for a car) and then sell mine for whatever I get. The good parts still far outweigh the bad parts but I'll stick it on ebay and be completely honest about, I think in the right hands it could be a good motor still.

Just glad I had this conversation before I ploughed everything I had into mine in the hope I would get my money back out at the other end.

So I hope at some point with what I've learned from this one I can get a D2 before the rot starts and the bits start falling off and nurse it along to increase it's lifespan.
