Hi all, need a new clutch doing asap, anyone any recommendations in the Bolton or Preston/Chorley area. I have 3rd gear at the mo so dont want to risk travelling too far.

Update.....
Td4 02, 50k on the dial. possibility of it being a master cylinder problem?

Railway Motors that would be I think........Just been to a local garage and they recommended them to me.

I'm beginning to wonder if I need a new clutch at all as the more I'm reading the more it sounds like it's the master cylinder that's gone.

It's an 02 TD4 btw.

The clutch was fine when I set off earlier today, on the way back though I felt the pedal begin to feel really spongy :( As I was heading back (with a boot full of frozen food in this weather  ) the pedal just drops to the floor. Could only engage reverse and 3rd gear. Limped to a local garage and they said new clutch needed @ £500 ::mad: Geez, do these guys not realise there's a credit crunch on

Anyhoo, got home and phoned a mate who said it sounded like the master cylinder had gone and to try replacing that. But then he said I'd need to bleed the system after it.......I've read Hayni boy a few times now and replacing the master cylinder sounds easy enough, but the bleeding procedure is not making any sense to me at all

Maybe it's the heat or the shock of being quoted £500 for a new clutch, but I cant seem to make head nor tail of it.

So before I go spending a fortune on a new clutch, should I replace the master cylinder first and take a chance, or do any of you more experty types think I'd be wasting my money. Oh and is there an easier way to bleed the system ???

Definitely get the master cylinder changed first. If you can't do it yourself get a garage to do it before changing the clutch itself.
