defender though there both good ,series in 4wd is the same as def in diff lock 4wd wise ,def has better engine if tdi etc and coils more articulation

A well driven Series will out-perform a poorly driven Defender.
On paper the Defender has more going for it (more articulation, better engines, wider track etc) but in the real world not many people take a Series to the absolute limits let alone a Defender.
At the end of the day the Defender is going to be the best if only for the reasons mentioned above but in a direct comparison with both vehicles equiped with the same tyes and drivers of equal skill it would be an interesting and I believe close test.

Both will do whatever most people want but its easier to push a defender as in a series you tend to bounce out of your seat.
