Best fathers day ever!

So, been a fairly good day so far. Few cards, nice lunch, the missus bought me some bit for the Beast, etc. So its been off the road for a year now, and I'm slowly working trough the gremlins, mountains of welding, and replacing the bits we've nicked for her disco. Well today was the day to try and start the Beast up, and I was not confident. It has not turned over for a year, and after watching the horror stories of run away diesel engines, I was not confident. I had my highly trained rapid response fire fighting unit at the ready (the missus, wiv a fire extinguisher) and the best camera person I could afford (my 7yo daughter) and I was expecting the worst. The fuel is a year old, the engine hasn't turned over, and all the neighbours think its a waste of time . . . What happened next is this:

I'd have been more scared of something getting sucked in and munched, than diesel runaway!

sirwingalot have faith in the green oval ,my 300tdi let me down once in 8 years still it was -21 at the time

if you were worried about a run away you should have been sat in the drivers seat handbrake full on in 5th gear feet hard down on clutch and brake .if it starts revving without the fast pedal being touched you just drop the clutch holding the brake pedal hard down.

Not taking the **** here but-----------WTF,
Why are you so paranoid that it's gonna run away FFS.This only happens on a very rare basis and that's right through the board,not just landy lumps.
A diesel can only run if it's got fuel,whether that be what the FIP is feeding it
or the engine is feeding it (oil).
So,If your engine was in good order before,Why wouldn't it be now.
It's on a Parr to surrounding the BBQ with fire extinguishers just in case.

Well I know that now!
I wasn't just worried about it running away, but I was more scared it wasn't going to start at all. I mean most cars can not sit for a year, then just turn over once, and then fire up as if nothings happened. That is not an every day occurrence, but if it is with landy's, then I humbly offer my sincerest apologies for not having faith.
