Best diesel for a 110

Hi,
I'm a newbie on here but don't want to be asking the obvious/ridiculous/usual uninformed question you've all heard a million times but no matter how hard I've looked on here I'm still in the dark.
Anyways, Ive bought an early petrol 110 and want to do a diesel conversion and want to know what the options are for an engine transplant? It doesn't need to be the easiest or the obvious (another 110 diesel lump for instance) as I'm up for and able to have a go at something a bit different. Could I get the straight six in my P38 in it? And the auto box for that matter? Or does the Disco 200tdi do a decent job?
Any help would be appreciated, and any links to yours or other's build threads would be most appreciated.

Id stick to a 200tdi meself, my wifes c*ck would hurt too much. The 200tdi is a very reliable and non electronic unit that is cheap to maintain and does'nt have a tendancy to cook itself and as a LR engine fits easily. With an intercooler upgrade and pump mods it can be improved above standard quite cheaply too.

Sorry to hear about your incompatability with your wife, life's a bitch sometimes.
Having read through the links Beneagles provided I think I'd tend to agree that the 200tdi might be the best, and easiest option. I did fancy a straight six though but I want to drive this soon, instead of landing myself with another 1000 hour project.
I'll get the feelers out for a **** heap Disco donor then....

200tdi is the only sensible answer. It ticks all the boxes, ie available, easy to fit, reliable, economical and cheap to buy. Simples.
 
Here's the economics of it. Buy a complete MOT failure disco. Use the engine and transfer box for your 110. Maybe the axles too. Strip the rest and flog the useable bits. Scrap the shell. Result is you've upgraded your 110 and it has only cost you your labour. You might even be in profit depending on what you paid for the scrapper disco.
 
btw there's not much to choose between a 200tdi and a 300 tdi engine but if you buy a 300 you'll have to weld on some different engine mounts whereas the 200 will go straight in.
