After reading this thread I asked the dealer who I am buying my rangie from about the EKA code and if there is a code for the CD player etc.,
He told me they likely don't matter for a 2001 model.
Before I take delivery I'm going to ask him to disconnect and clean the battery posts and collars... I did notice they were furred over anyway. This may be interesting.

Unless it's an L322, dealer speaketh with forked tongue. Demand the EKA code, you WILL need it at some point. The radio is also coded on my late 2000 model P38:)

Um, yes they DO matter. Make sure you have them. They can be obtained from LR with the V5, but it's easier for the seller to get them.

Thanks, Datatek, I will buy several items when I buy the car.
The dealer is fitting new brake pads and he mentioned an ABS sensor replacement.
I hope to finish the deal at the weekend and have a trouble free car.
I am P/Xing my trusty Pajero Exceed in the deal. It has given us nearly 7 years trouble free driving around France; Spain, Italy, Greece, Cyprus and UK in comfort, so now I'm looking forward to a faster ride.

I would keep the Pajero and p/x the contents of your current account. That way you get one car that works and one that cost you all your money - just like any Range Rover

I logged on to have a go at this outrageous statement but then couldn't argue against it! :D

I hate to p>> on somebodies fireworks but.....
Its pot-luck whether you need the EKA, mine did`nt for two dis-connects but went on strike last time, that was when i discovered that the original EKA had been changed when the BECM was changed, get the new one. On mine, if you actually turn EVERYTHING off before turning the key off then the battery lasts weeks, if however, you leave anything on like the climate control or the radio on then it dies in four days, go figure. Somebody needs to up-date the fixes with some help for those with this problem, cleverer than me!
