Hi guys

I love landy's. I've a '51 plate disco which was my first, love, but now the "mistress" a 1972 series 3 has taken that place.

All is well, she performed well on a recent RTV with the club, but today she went on fire: electrical, and from behind the dashboard. I took the facia off and discovered that the red and black power outlet points were to blame, as one wasn't secured. so, several inches of duct tape later, the power problem was gone.

On my way home from today's jaunt, she stuttered once, and then 10 miles later, died on me. It was like I just turned the ignition key off; no power, no stuttering, just a slow and painful grind to a halt.

The ONLY things I did today were fill her up with unleaded and then added the fuel additive to make the unleaded to leaded thing go ok.

Also, I added a tube from the cap on top of the rocker cover to the air intake, as I noticed that was missing.

And, of course, I bled the clutch, as that was the concern regarding Bessie's health this week.

Having towed her home with my Disco II TD5, and pushed Bessie back into a parking space, I was regailing my neighbour with the events of today, and then reached into the cab through the drivers window in order to show Lee, what/why she wouldn'tn restart; onl to find that Bessie did start!

I bought the car on the 13th April, and for the past 3/4 years, it did 12 miles per week. 6 on a Monday, and then 6 back home on a Friday.

I've done 500 miles in her and all has been well until now.

So, any ideas as to what I should be doing?

just on that point, is the crank case breather still open? the hose you've replaced on yours was also missing on me petrol engine and the crankcase breather was plugged, dont think it did much good to the old lump! i fitted a t-piece to the rocker cover/air intake hose and connected the crankcase hose in to it as well.

Hi

There was a piece of plastic and a bar-lok tie covering the hole on the air intate that runs from the filter to the carburettor. When I held my hand over the hole on the metal cap (on the rocker cover), I could feel air.

I saw a picture of an engine and noticed it had one on it, so I added one to mine.

Is that wrong? Should I leave it all the way it was.

She conked out on me on again just now (engine quite cold) but started again after a few minutes of embarrassment!

We have eliminated electrics, we think.

The timing was set today following the replacement of new plugs, points condensor, which strangely were for a disrtributer that was in the 1978+ models?!!

I've noticed the carburettor has been changed to, and this is what's in it:

Carburettor Weber tipo 34 ich 2 350.

I whipped the top off it tonight, but it seems clean.

Haven't looked at the fuel filter wotsit at the pump.

But the car is lumpy on idle, some times cuts out, and generally doesn't make a pleasant driving experience.

Any ideas where I can get a manual for the carb, so I can work on it?
