Forgive me if this comes up twice, it didn't seem to register the first time. I noticed bits of a shredded belt hanging down under my p 38. Can anyone give me a ball park figure for a fix at a decent garage ( have one in mind) and an indication of how complicated a job it is (I am not mechanically minded) Cheers in advance for any replies.

Diesel or petrol? Aircon or no aircon? Charge light on or not on?
If it's diesel and the charge light is not on, most likely the aircon compressor drive belt.
How much a garage will charge to replace it will depend on how much they think they can screw you for.

So it will be the aircon belt, perhaps the compressor has seized. You can leave it and live without aircon if you wish.

Holgate Vehicles in Orrell (Wigan) are a Landrover specialist and Andy is a good guy who wouldn't rip you off and charge you a fair price. The belt itself is around £8 from Eurocarparts. Mine was shredded but still working. I only noticed when I was changing the water pump and had the front off anyway.
