Hi - Put my wading plugs in today ready for some off roading next weekend and noticed another threaded hole in the top right hand side of the bellhousing. It appears to go straight onto the flywheel so am i correct in thinking that it is to lock the engine up when doing timing etc? Should there be another plug in there and if so where can you get them?
It is a 1987 110 with a disco 200tdi, lt77 gearbox and the old 2.5td bellhousing.

Any ideas?

I'm kinda glad you asked this. I was footering about under mine yesterday and I noticed there was a wading bung in the bellhousing, so I whippped it out (musta been there when I bought the beasty.) Anyway, I also noticed the second hole slightly higher up so I put what I thought was a wading bung into this 2nd hole to blank it off and leaving the hole at the bottom open.

I'll need to get a set of wading plugs in case I get into water sometime.

Do wading plugs matter for the occasional dip? I don't bother and would have thought you are at mote risk driving around with things in all the time???

Pretty much how I look at it, which is why I whipped it out. I'd only want them in there if I was planning off-roading or going into deepish water. I was very pleased to notice that, when I stuck my pinkie in the hole, there were no signs of oil in there, some sort of soft black crusty stuff was evidend (clutch dust I assume has built up over time.)

on 2.5 na or td top right hole is timing pin hole ,tdi at bottom ,you wont have hole at bottom i think ,the hole is same thread as tdi fly wheel housing plug
