Been a While

Hi LR People, it's been a while since i owned a Land Rover, Used to have a 1959 Series 2 Diesel and a 3.9 Range Rover vouge (cant remember the year but a thirsty bugger lol).
Live in Norwich "Norfolk n Good" Married and believe in the saying "Happy Wife Happy Life" which is what brings me here, My wife wants a Range Rover and as I have been away from the marque for so many years thought asking people who drive them everyday would be a good start.. (I drive a Hummer H2 as my daily driver and have an eclectic collection of other cars for fun,)
My wife likes the MK3 shape 2002-2012 I'd prefer a MK1 2 door, but that's me .
now to my questions, simple really which is the best one to buy?, or are there not many differences, Not bothered about MPG it's got to be more economical than my Hummer. But would like to know if any engines or gearboxes have issues, if there's anything to look for when inspecting them.

Cheers Fella, As I said in my intro its for the wife, I'd have a Landover or a early Range Rover, before they turned into Luxury 4X4 On roaders lol
