Hi all, i have alittle issue with my 96 2.5 dse Rangie. i think its the box under the seat?
The sympytoms are all the dash lights come on, Rev/Speedo dont work and neither do the water temp or fuel gauge.
it doe's start but with some difficulty (possible glow plugs not kicking in?) and the central locking is playing around?

It has been stood up since January and faults only started when tryed to get it going again (ie jumpstarting)

Are there any check i could do myself to determine where the problem could be or is it best to put it straight into Land Rover and hand over a empty cheque!

Thanks in advance Duncan.

I've a similar problem to you only in reverse, my instruments work but nothing else on the console. The link below may help.
Demystifying the BeCM

I also am led to believe that a lot of weird behaviour can also be caused by bad earths and the under bonnet fuse box which is my next task.

there's a good chance you've got battery problems if it has been parked up for a long time. these buses relly need a healthy battery/alternator

Well after all your helpful suggestions, i took the fusebox apart, and thourghly checked all of that which turned out to be ok, thenheck all the wiring looms back to the BECM and the sockets going into the BECM, then takled the BECM itself. No obvious corrosion or damage visable?

Do you think im losing a DIY battle and best hand over to the experts now?

Is there anywhere i could go except main dealer that are specialists in this field?

if it turns out to be becm probsyou can send your unit into aviltec ltd in cowes ...phone # 01983 281811...email..rod at carelect.demon.co.uk, if you want they will give you a rough quote before you send the unit.
good luck

Just to keep you updated, i have got hold of another dash, to try, just waiting for it to be delivered, so hopefully may cure the problem! i'll keep you posted

Bear in mind that if the new panel has a higher mileage reading than your own that the BECM will default to it. If the mileage is lower on the new panel the value stored in the BECM will be shown. The mileage is stored on an Eprom and cannot be reset unless a new BECM and panel is fitted. Friend of mine was most upset after he changed the instrument panel on his 55000 mile P38 for one bought of Egay and the mileage jumped to 160000+ with no chance of cheaply resetting it-even with Rovacomlite, which I have.

Have you tried changing/ fully charging the battery? My battery was dying the other day but still reading over 11v, when i turned the ignition on the dash went crazy everything lit up like a christmas tree, nothing worked. Battery changed everything is fine. since you said its been stood since Jan i would put money on the battery not at its peak like said before.
