P38A BECM/ECU unsynced? ODB Fault code P1672

I've just been pointed this-a-way by some helpful people on the Series 2 club forum, so, here goes :)

We've got a 2002 P38, 4.6l petrol auto. In london last weekend we suffered a nearly-flat battery (due to the wifi issue, I think - it doesn't seem to suffer at home! Must get round to upgrading the receiver). It would *just* turn over, but we tried jump starting, then a new battery, but it wouldn't "fire" and we ended up being towed home! The engine turns over fine...

Plugged in my cheapy chinese code reader, and it reported P1672 which i have looked up as "Engine anti-theft signal circuit wrong code received Secure ECM, received incorrect code", and I think things need "recoding" between the BECM and ECU?

I've been looking at getting a proper diagnostics unit (the "Book" symbol on the HVAC display is on, etc...), and was wondering whether anyone knew if this would do the job at resyncing everything:

alternatively the "hawkeye"? Although looking at:

the "On the Range Rover P38 can I programme my BeCM?" has left me a bit confused as to whether it would do that or not, as I presume it would be "locked"?

Is this something which you can "DIY" or do I need to get it done by someone with a testbook/etc?

Suggestions/Alternatives/etc welcome!

Oh thanks - I hadn't seen that one, I think! Would "The Nanocom Evolution does not have the ability to unlock the BeCM." be an issue at all? :/

I've no idea whether it needs to be "unlocked" or "unalarmed" to do this....

Not normally and for all practical purposes no, the BECM is normally locked at the factory after some parameters are entered. Does not need to be unlocked to sync with engine ECU. Only time it would need to be unlocked was if it had failed or gone to a locked alarmed state. It which case it would need to be unlocked to be repaired and re programmed. The software to do this is serious money on top of the price of a Faultmate MSV.
 
Ah! Thanks for the confirmation. So it it did need "unlocking" it would be something far more "serious"...

So am I right (ha!) in thinking that the "Faultmate MSV-2 extreme", the "Nanocom Evolution" and the "Bearmach Hawkeye" would all do what we require now (and in the future?), and all can be kept in the car and used with out a laptop etc.

If so I "just" need to check they all "do" HVAC/Suspension/etc then toss a (three sided?) coin to decide which to get...

Anything I've missed? :/

No you would not be correct. MSV 2 will do more than Nanocom but not a lot more without serious cost in software. Hawkeye is a joke when compared to either. .
 
The nanocom will fit in the glovebox and do most flings iv the be my needs major surgery rick the picks ur man
 
Richl if you want a cheeper fix for the rf receiver try this it works very well and no signals are going to get through

My O/H's father has just made me up a complete kit based on this principle. I'll get round to fitting it one of these days, if I ever manage to resolve my other problems. I did wonder if we ought to offer it to others.
