I've just fitted a Becker Sat Nav system to my Disco 2. It's the unit designed to go into a Ford (for the wife's car) but it looked quite good and I thought I try it in the Disco. Had to bring of the Vehicle Speed Sensor feed from the Cruise Control ECU and fir an Adaptor to the Aerial lead. Anyway it works well and I'm trying to see if I can get it to do more. So....

Q1. On the factory fit Land Rover Becker unit can you use the Steering Wheel controls to manage the unit ?

Q2. If yes, does anyone know how they connect to the becker unit ?
I know the Steering Wheel controls are presented on one of the smaller connectors (the yellow one I think). The normal Alpine head units like most these days accept these connectors (there are three on most units) located above the speaker ISO connector. They all seem to do differant jobs on differant units (Don't you just love standardisation!!). So does the Land Rover Becker unit just connect to the Steering Wheel Control feed because it has been specifically designed (like the Alpine unit) or does it need an adaptor similar to an aftermarket JVC unit. I know the steering wheel controls work by changing the resistance value between to of the pins on the connector.

Could someone look at the backer of the LR Becker unit and tell me what they see and how it connects - a photo would be fantastic. Details of someone who has modded their system would be even better.

The Becker unit is good for a single DIN unit - The only grumble is that the backlight on the display is quite dim - anyone know how to get it brighter?

Cheers folks,
