Because it's an ambulance ????????

If I turn the hazard lights on it automatically turns the ignition on !!! This can be a standard fitment can it. I haste to add I found this out when the keys were in the kitchen!

Maybe but sounds like a possible fault through the flasher unit where its found a path to the ignition wiring

Think I'll have to rip it out today and check then - didn't know weather it was landrover specific as it lives up the control panel for the back - lights , sockets , heaters ECt .

I suggest your difficulty is in the hazard switch itself - there is a set of contacts there that switches the power from the flasher to a full-on +12 line when the hazards are turned on. Sounds to me that that circuit is not breaking the connection to switched when it is making to the +12 line.

You can determine this by pulling the fuse to the hazards and seeing if the ignition comes on when you hit the hazard switch.
