P38A Bearmach 'stat OK?

Need a replacement thermostat urgently for my Thor P38. Is a Bearmach 'stat worth an extra £7/8 over a "generic" one please? Need to order first thing on next day delivery. Hope you're all keeping safe and healthy.

Lots of dodgy stats around these days, I's go for the Bearmach and test it in boiling water before fitting.
 
Thanks Keith. That's the reassuring comment I was hoping for...I ordered one yesterday, which will be posted tomorrow direct to my local trusted mechanic. I'll call him with your advice to test before fitting.
I f there were screams of "don't buy that make", I'd have called them up to change it.

Make sure it has the air bleed "valve" if not then get them to drill a 3mm hole which should be fitted in the 12 o clock position. I'll see if I can find an old one in the garage to illustrate what I mean. Stay safe.

Yes thanks Mike, we're fine,well not murdered each other, yet. Found it,my garage isn't organised just had a vague idea of its location.

Sorry Mike, for some reason I thought you had a diesel, yours comes in a complete housing.:oops::D
I cause chaos and disruption all the time Alan...even over the ether it seems. First P38 I had was a 2000 DHSE. Current one is a V8, fortunately dual fuel, as is my A8. So I can put the meat cleaver away and it can go straight on the pipework without Alanificating it
 
Bearmach is fine..

Same as what is on mine...

It is rather difficult to check the stat unless you take a hammer to the plastic housing :rolleyes:
 
Oh and replace the constant tension clamps with Stainless Jubilee clips "if you have them" as they're your main enemy when trying to get the thing on and off..
 
They're a pain in the ass to fit ;)

I'd remove the Fan and rad cowl, as trying to pry the pipes off is a two hand operation..

The mechanic doing the job has had several P38's. I gave him a replacement rad for the wrong one that's been on 18months or so. Looking forward to driving it home tomorrow, although not exactly slumming it in my A8 since Friday.

The said Bearmach thoimerstat will be with my trusted mechanic before noon tomorrow, so looking forward to hearing that lovely V8 burble respond when I tickle the throttle. She ALWAYS starts on first attempt unless I've forgotten to switch from LPG to petrol before switching off, in which case it takes only one more attempt. I LOVE my P38!
