Bearing failures after wading?

I took my wife's newish X5 wading in December, forgot it wasn't the Defender! She has the lovely BiTurbo, any way it ceased and £18.5k for a new engine. I felt a right tit and my wife was not overly happy. All sorted now with new engine, turbos, fuel rail, injectors etc etc etc and is spot on but I will never drive it through anything more than a puddle again. Sticking to the defender or Hilux if its been raining, saying that I don't think it's an option anyway as the wife tends not to leave her car keys lying about any more!!
