Gonna go into detail on this and hopefully someone can shed some light for me.

When I got my truck the key was snapped and you could use anything to start it using the ignition switch. I had a scrap truck there and I was using it for parts. I decided to use the key blade ignition switch and door lock from the scrap truck. I still kept the original fob. Now truck was starting fine off the key until I locked the door and it went nuts and immobilised. Could not find anyone with nanocom but ended up with a lynx fpro setup very very cheap so I was gonna code a new fob. However when I hooked this up it could not contact the ecu. I ended up hooking up a bcu from the other truck and the lynx linked with it no problem. So I thought the bcu was toast. I put the ecu from the other truck in and go my one running. Coded the injectors and its fine for now as im still at the building stage.

I thought nothing of it till I was called out to a disco with the same problem as mine. I hooked my lynx up and same thing it would not contact the bcu. Luckily this guy als had a spares truck and I was able to get his truck running as I did mine.

Have I encountered 2 faulty bcu's in a row or is there something Im doing wrong. Its worth noting both faulty bcu's alarms were armed and the ones I replaced them with had no alarm

Hi, i doubt that those BCUs are faulty just that they've got immobilised when the vehicle was locked and not unlocked with the fob... the D2's factory setting is as to keep it immobilised untill it's unlocked with the fob or remobilised with EKA code... and while it's immobilised it doesnt comunicate with any tester, that's how it's set... though if you dont know the EKA code don't lock it again cos you'll immobilise the spare BCU too or disable the alarm and immobiliser with the tester.

the current bcu is working fine of the fob. problem with the other 2 is they had no fob to unlock with and with my first one I tried the eka but could not get it to go into eka mode. I have been through all the procedures recommended. I to do not think the bcu's are faulty after encountering the same problem twice in a row

I would err on the safe side, take Sierrafery's advice and use your tester to set the alarm system to be disabled with the key. That way if the fob fails you can always get in and drive it using the key.

Have done with the current setup. Really want to know why I cant connect to the bcu's with the alarms going. the ecu's are both nnn units and one has a stage 1 map so could do with getting to the bottom of the problem.

Because as Sierrafery explained, with the alarms going connection to diagnostic tools is disabled. Otherwise a thief with a Hawkeye could break in and get past the alarm and immobiliser in seconds. The system is designed so that it can only be reset by someone with the correctly registered fob.

Not at all. If you want to regain the full alarm and immobilisation capability you can have a specialist fix the problem for you. These people are apparently very good http://callrova.com/land-rover-discovery-2/

Or you can go into the BCU menu system and set the alarm to "always disable with key". That will get you in using the key without setting off the alarm. If you also "disable passive immobilisation" you will not need the EKA code to start it and can drive it indefinitely without a problem.

Specialist aint an option where I live basically if you want something done you have to do it yourself. Lad whos disco I got running had it stood for 6 months before I came along. Because im now into land rovers Im encouraging my boss to invest in equipment. It was him who sourced me my lynx pro setup. Which is very good but nanocom is coming in the near future. Seem to be stuc in a rut because I can access the bcu while alarm is active and don't have a key to deactivate I so I can access the bcu menu. I shall persevere and hope something clicks

That makes more sense. Beautiful place Wick, but a bit windswept and definitely out of the way.
I suggest you speak to Callrova anyway to see what options they can offer. They may be able to take your BCU, and link two fobs to it with the right key blades. You don't know if you don't ask.
