Start of winter weather in Scotland and my battery giving up the ghost.
Mate offered me an HB096 - 12v, 6400cca and 70Ah - for good price, but wondered if suitable for a series 3?

Does it fit, is it cheap, is it good? will it do?

Yes, I would say that spec is suitable for a series but how old is it? If it's fairly new, I'd buy it if not you should splash out on a new one. Mine is 75Ah I think. It's been on for about three years and still going strong.

It's half price and the Landie is petrol. Picking it up tomorrow.

Great to hear old machine roaring back to life. Perfect fit in the battery holder and turns out it is a new battery. Never used as mate's pal changed his work van, and happy to clear it for half price. With temperature up here hovering around 4 degrees I even managed to get the flat Smiths heater up and running in the meantime!
