I wonder if anyone out there can help me.

I want to disconnect my battery to clean up some of those connections & hopefully restore the steering wheel buttons to their normal function. ( sometimes they sound the horn instead of the inteded action).
I have read the instructions in Rave & understand that I should turn the ignition on then off then disconnect within a few seconds to avoid activating the alarm. However the satnav instruction says to leave for at least 2 minutes. So which is it or is there a more up to date instruction.

Thanks for your help

I think the instructions in Rave are for vehicles without SatNav. If you disconnect the battery before the SatNav has gone through its shut down procedure (which takes a little while), you run a serious risk of permanently wrecking it. I'm not sure what the correct procedure with SatNav is to be honest. Methinks I would just disconnect the alarm sounder itself. Maybe someone'll be along later today with a definitive procedure.

Thanks Derek, I think the sounder is self powered & will go off anyway. I have read that with the door open & key in positionII I might be ok. Battery is now off - going back on later today.

Has to be something to do with the sat nav but I wouldn't be overly worried about it, When I think of how many times I've had to take out the battery of my laptop after it crashed and I'm still typing on it ! Same goes for the desktop at home when the surge protector cuts out. I remember years ago it was meant to be a big issue with old hard drives, so maybe James is that vintage.

BTW I've disconnected the battery in the Rangie more times than I care to remember without ever triggering a fault. Biggest problem is always reseting the windows.

Thank you SpudH. That gives me the confidence to press on. I have decided to replace the battery whilst I am about it. Probably fit it on Monday.

New battery now in. Key out, drivers door open, Battery out, Key in & turn to position II (ign) new battery in Barke pump starts Warning beeps for windows etc. NO ALARM. Key to start - "engine impobilised", release key "Start engine" Key to start, engine starts. Brilliant Switches & buttons all work except horn. Sort that out later.

Thanks for your help.
