Battery location 1985 v8 90

May sound a stupid question but on my 1985 v8 90 should the battery be located under the passengers seat like on my tdci 90? It is a factory v8 the Reason I ask this is that the battery is in a different location behind the bulkhead in the rear tub and when looking under the passengers seat I was greeted with no battery tray just a view straight to the ground

It looks like a battery tray hasn’t ever been there and if it was there it was taken off several years ago.

My factory V8s - 1985 90, 1990 110 - had the battery in the box under the passenger seat and my current V8 conversion from a 2.5P is the same.
Located behind the bulkhead in the rear tub sounds like a previous owner's handiwork. There should be a battery box under the pass seat but they can rust and rot out so maybe it was removed it and the battery relocated ?

I would second YRM as the supplier for a replacement battery box. They are very good quality, slightly deeper making fitting a larger battery easier and you can get the mounting tray from them as well to make securing it easier as well. I fitted one form them a few years ago. they may seem expensive but they are worth every penny and just fit first time unlike a lot of parts that need fettling to land rover tolerances.

Ideal cheers for the reply’s. I’ll look up this battery box’s you recommended. To be fair I may just leave it as is for the minuet it had a little cover that’s been made to hide the battery and then do it properly when I rebuild it next year.
