Hello all.

Got back from a 50 mile run today and noticed the battery symbol light on the dash going on and off?

Does this mean impending doom and money?

My first thought was that the battery may need charging, or is it on it's way out.

TD4 WITH 85,000 on the clock.

As always, thanks in advance for any help members.

Cheers

Check the conections on the battery and alternator. If they're ok check the voltage at the battery with the engine running, should be around 14 volts, and switched off, should be around 12 volts.

Somebody might know if the flashing light means specific.

Post results if you can check it. It will help narrow down the fault.

Dunc.

have you been through any deep water? if so it might be the alternator but should be ok also when it is dark start you engine and then put all your lights on then press the brake pedal .does the ignition light glow if so your alternator is going down

Alternator,,on its way out or poor connections..

Wont be long before not enough oomph to start the motor,
worth getting it sorted sooner rather than later,
winter is nearly here,,

Hello all.

Thanks for your replies.

I have not run the Freelander since the weekend with the intention of getting a new alty to fit on Saturday.

Came out to it tonight and noticed when i tried to open it by the fob it would not. Ared light was flashing in side on the dash, but untill i opened the car by key there was nothing going to happen.

Could it be that there is some thing else at fault here? I did fit a cheap battery to the fob a month ago.

Thanks in advance for any info. Just to say, it did start without any fuss and no battery light showing. Sorry to drag this out.

Cheers
