Hello, hoping someone can help. Not even sure this is the right place. But As above really. My 90 2.5 td seems to be running as normal other than the fact the battery light has decided to come on and stay on when the engine is running. It came on last night when running with lights etc, thought the belt might of gone or slipping but have checked that and everything seems fine. Have started twice since the light has come on, once from cold and once from warm but both times fired into life as would be expected. So I think I have eliminated the battery being dead and the alternator not working but don't know where to go now. I'm rubbish with electrics so please be kind haha.

Thanks for any help in advance.

take somekind of voltmeter in your hands and connect to the battery, then start engine. readin should be something 13.6-14.2 volts. if not the alternator is wornout. it might be on only voltageregulator fault, or brushes? sorry 4 my bad english.

I've measured what the alternator is putting out and it's only 12.5. Would this make the light come on and stay on?

Ok so I replaced my alternator on the 20th of October with a bran new one from paddock spares and today I started the 90 and everything was fine, pulled away and within 200m my battery light has come on again. Got home checked the charge going to battery now only reads 12.4v. Is there something else wrong or just a dodgy alternator?

Please help, getting annoyed with electrics keep failing on me.

u have 2 check these, b+ must have 12v all the time and d+ (smallwire) 12v when u turn ignition on. this d+ have 12v from your dashliht and when alternator is charcing enough then the light go off.

check also your wiring, alternator-starter-battery. and battery-engine-body grounding
