If i were to buy the item above could this operate as a split charge system?

My (very) basic understanding is that i could have one battery connected to the starter, an aux battery running everything else, with this switch i could select off when not in use as an additional anti theft device, switch it to 'both' when driving to charge both batteries, and switch it to '2' when camping so as to use only the aux battery without flattening my starter battery.

When it comes to electronics i just dont get it!
any advice or confirmation would be gratefully recieved.

Cheers, Steve

Kinda.... That switch makes it so a given load will either be supplied by batt1 or batt2 or both or off altogether.

So you could connect all your loads to that switch instead of the battery terminals which would then allow the switch to control where the power comes from.

Not a great solution in my mind and the switch is rubbish. Only 150a continuous. Blue sea ones are much better.

You would be better off with a vsr based split charge system or alternatively just a straight switch between battery positives, and put your leisure loads on batt2. Just ensure the switch is rated high enough to handle the load. I.e. a winch is 450a at full tilt.

Thanks for the reply.

I think just a basic switch between the 2 batteries will be the way to go, simple and effective.

having looked at simple on / off battery isolation switches they all seem to be in the region of 100 - 200 amp continuous, with 500 amp (for 5 seconds)
i dont honestly know what this means but if i were running a winch would that mean i'd need 500 amp continuous?

Go have a look at the blue sea website. Leccy stuff for boats and it's very good. Can pick em up in ebay for about 25.

Bluesea 9003e. Simple on off. 350a continuos. 2000a for 10 secs. I've got 2 of these in my landy.
