i know the P38 has problems with the fm thingy and radio waves making the battery go flat. does the l322 suffer the same problems.. mates got a 54 plate doosal vogue and the battery goes flat after two days, he lives near a tv mast so my thoughts are the problemsthat plagued the P38.

main stealers told himits an ecu and asked for a grand to fix it :doh:

independant dealer cant find any faults at all :confused: but in the 3 weeks it was at the garage didnt go flat once !!!!!!!!!!

any thoughts guys

yes had the same problem with my 2002 TD6 only used at weekends so got a solar powered cigar lighter plug in charger and that worked very well no more problems, unlike the P38 that i have a solar charger direct onto the batter and still have to isolate the battery but that works for me as again only use at the weekends.

Sorry if I've missed previous correspondence on this issue (recent joiner), but just read your post about battery going flat on your P38. Owing to recent surgery (on me!) I'm confined to light Landrover maintenance duties at present! Through little use of my P38 over the past two weeks I'm concerned that my battery has been losing power to the extent that there may be some kind of drain upon it. Is the "fm thingy" about being near a transmitter or could I expect a recently-purchased battery (18 months) to become drained in a week or two unused - through the clock and alarm system (which is all I can think of)? Of course, will check alternator is charging properly but I guess I'd know if this was inoperative. The simple check I use is a meter across the battery terminals, showing only only 11.6 volts in this example. The cold-start problem was resolved when battery charged up (glow plugs new, no fuel probs I can detect)

Doug,

IIRC the frequency the remote works on is 433 Mhz ..... AND SO DO Wireless door bells, Wireless weather Stations ... & owt else you can think of ......

When you lock yer car ..after a few minutes it "Goes to Sleep" .... BUT if some fooker has a Wireless doorbell & presses it .. it not only rings the bell but it WAKES UP YER RANGIE ....& drains the battery (this can happen in a range of about 500 feet.. so even if YOU aint got anything thats "Wireless" your neighbours might have)

Rear offside panel in the boot remove it & locate the small black box... there are 2 wires going into it .... REMOVE the SINGLE WIRE ONLY (Its on a Plug) ......DO NOT EVER remove the 3 wire connector ..

There is a constant drain on the battery even if the BECM doesn't "wake up" so 2 or 3 weeks seems to be about the limit without running the car. I also use a 12 watt solar panel on mine when it is not being used, keeps the battery well topped up:D
 
Other possible culprit on an L322 is the Final Stage Resistor in the HVAC system (otherwise known as the "hedgehog") going faulty. Only costs £30 and a few minutes to replace.

If the satnav unit is fitted in the rear left compartment, this may also be pulling current permanenently due to water ingress from the side window above it.

what does this do exactly,and i,ve got to ask what does this 3 wire connector do?
