hi all, havent posted much here at all but anyway,
got my 93 200tdi disco and as i havent passed my test yet its been standing a while, the battery keeps going flat real quick, and though i suspect it is the original battery (as its genuine l/r) i still think theres something wrong with the vehicle, ive got a new battery on the way anway (xmas prezzie woo) . basically what sort of resistance should there be between pos + and neg - ? i would guess it should be infinate but want to check im right before i start going crazy looking for the problem, i seperated the pos + connections at the terminal and tested each individually, and both the starter motor wire and the other large main power lead have some resistance to earth (can't remeber exact figure)
is this ok? dont want to wait and find out when new battery is here and kill it by it keep going flat again.
sorry for long read but any help really useful.
cheers

the battery is deffinately toasted but is the slight resistance between pos and neg anything to worry about?
thanks 4 quick reply!

Best thing is to put the new battery in, then put a ammeter into the circuit, between the neg terminal and neg lead would be the best, and then see what its drawing, a few hundred mA at most I would think.

My 90, which has no electrics bar the clock when off draws about 2mA, the Disco (300tdi) draws about 80mA I think.

What ever you do don't start any heavy electrics or the engine as it will melt the meter into a little blob.

batterys need checkiin with a proper H/Duty tester. most acc shops will test it for free.

right its drawing about 0.15A when off with alarm off and 0.25A with alarm set, sound about right?
cheers p.s battery will be brand new when it arrives just wanted to check it wasnt the car aswell.

my battery lasts 18 months

probly cause of amp and subs , sat nav , phone charger , booster pack charger :D

38.90 the last 1 cost last month second one in three years, but iam prepared got a booster pack in the boot, s*** just remembered it flat been jumping cars at work

38.90! Get yourself to Costco, and get a big bosch battery, costs about £50 but thats good for the battery your getting.

hi chaps
just replaced the original battery on my old 200, 13 years old, last cold spell on Friday killed it. The radio even lost its prestored stations got mine from craddocks only short walk from my home,£52.66 inc v.a.t.
3 year guarantee, nearly pulled my arm out of its socket, hope it lasts longer than 18 months.I doubt it would last any where near 13 years, more chance
of finding rocking horse ****.
All the best to all have a happy &safe new year.:)

Never mind resistance checks. If the volts accross pos and neg is anything less than 12v disconnected, then the thing is shagged! If the volt dont go up to 14ish volts when running then yer alternators shagged.
