Hi all just got my series 3 on the road will make a progress thread soon one thing that's happening first time after I washed it with the pressure washer flat battery now had it down the road the other day first time in the rain flat battery again this mabe coincidence and be a knackered battery but has never done it on a dry day and I'd like to err on the side of caution don't want to lose it to a fire through a short circuit! I have noticed the earth strap from the starter to the chassis is kinked and touching the block no idea if this is related or not I'm no sparky! Cheers Dave

The earth strap touching the block won't be a problem, it's when a live cable with iffy insulation touching the block you will have a problem. When you say the battery is going flat, is it actually going flat? Have you measured it with a volt meter? My series had symptoms of a flat battery when the weather was colder but it turned out to be a tired starter motor, once warm it started easily. After rain or washing it, is the top of the batter getting wet. Poor starting can often be a poor earth because the resistance becomes high and not enough power gets to the starter.

Yes the battery is totally flat I'l take the positive from the battery to solenoid off and have a good look as it's covered in oil and needs cleaned though I did look the other day and it doesn't appear to touch anything other than the clip near the battery and one at the front of the sump
