I'm thinking of taking my battery off and methodically going around cleaning up all my car's earth points (95N 4.6 P38) to restrict any electrical maladies to hardware or software faults. At the same time I'd like to change the batteries in my fob.

Having seen some of the shenanigans folks on here have endured, I'm a bit nervous of the problems I could cause (unsynched BeCM etc etc).

What are the points to remember/be wary of?

Thanks,

Malcolm

This /I've posted before ... to stop any Gremlins creepin into yer Becm & the like do this.....

1. Get a GOOD slave battery
2. A set of GOOD jump leads
3. proceed as follows..............

connect the jump leads to the Slave & the others ends to your Battery terminal LEADS ( Not on the battery itself) ...disconnect yer old (Fitted) battery & remove it then proceed to go about doing what you want to (the slave will hold all the codes in yer Becm & electrics ect)
Refit yer battery when you;ve done & disconnect the jump leads..ect ect ..

Some peiople say you'll fook up the Becm by connecting 2 batteries at once ....YOU WON'T .. you will be connecting them in PARALLEL Not in SERIES ( Coz your connecting Positive to postive & Negative to Negative)

I had a SLAVE connected in my DISCO perminantly (& am seriously thinkin of doing it in the P38)

When connecting in Parallel you are doubling the capacity (amp hours) of the battery while maintaining the voltage of one of the individual batteries.

When connecting your batteries in Series you are doubling the voltage while maintaining the same capacity rating (amp hours).

As long as you go + to + & - to - you'll be fine & If you don't use the P38 much (& it doesn't charge the battery on any long runs) you can put yer "Usual" battery on charge on yer bench fer a good old 24 hour charge & know when you re fit it you won't have any "Re-syncing" probs with keys / Becm & resetting all the damn Windows & sunroof ect...........

Thanks Mr HC!

That makes total sense if I was changing the battery for a new one.

However doesn't unbolting earth points to clean them with a battery still connected potentially have a disasterous impact on fragile electronics?

Malcolm

Just follow the directions in the owners hand book and disconnect the battery. As said make sure you have the EKA code before you do. Do NOT work on anything with the battery connected as that will definately lead you into trouble.
