Battery will maybe be fine wiped down but may have a slight weep. But the retainer is certainly lacking a bit of regular maintenance.

When did you last remove the battery retainer and clean it up, give it a wipe with an oily rag to protect it and refit it? When did you last take the battery out and check the condition of the battery tray?
Let me see now, I have had the car just on a year so that would be, never ! However I will do so tomorrow, thanks for the advice, cheers John

No probs John, but these things need looking at now and again like a lot of other things or you will get problems.
