Ok done a search and not found what im looking for.
Just wondering if anyone has linked two batteriers together, when i had a boat i had four linked togerther still 12v and all got charged as one, i understand having a seperate battery for starting and another for winch etc, but was wondering other than if they went flat you cant start the vehicle was there any other reason not to link them, as long as engine is running when winching, surely they shouldnt go flat.
By the way The Kings Speach is a good film;)

What you do is you isolate the 2nd battery with a switch, so that when the engine is running you are charging both batteries - but when you need to do some winching etc, you just flip the switch and isolate the 2nd battery. This way you don't risk flattening your main starting battery. When you're done winching, you just flip the switch back again and the alternator will charge both batteries simultaneously ;)

And no, if you are drawing enough current from the batteries (for example when winching which uses a massive amount of power), the alternator won't be able to keep up with the demand and the battery/batteries will eventually become flat.

worth isolating overnight or for long periods also. power all your accessories/winch off 1 batt not a mix, that way 1 is always good.

its like a manual split charge!

Thanks guys, like the idea of manual split charger less to go wrong.
Can understand why more people dont do it like that, all the threads on this are about split chargers when you dont really need one, happy days

when you eventually forget and cant start your motor because you left your spots on in the daytime... you will realise :D
