Some exciting news!

Ordered my VNT for the D2 from Empire. Roughly the same spec and build ss the one I had on the 110. Ceramic ball bearing, VNT, watercooled etc...

Just getting together the list of parts that go with it, oil lines, water lines etc...

Then will get it booked in for a LOF extreme spec clutch!

This time also going for head studs so I can reliably run 2.2bar of boost compared to 1.7bar on the 110.

Should be able to achieve 280bhp/600nm or so :D:D

Annoyingly while fettling my new airbox I noticed the rad is leaking  not a bad leak but it will got worse. Strange as according the history this D2 has had 5 rads in the past. I wonder if there is something rubbing or damaging the rad. I will investigate when replacing, along with the coolant block so I can hook up the Stack gauge.

Also welded a 1/8NPT stainless bung onto a new EGR blank, so I can neatly run my boost gauge. Unfortunately looks like the previous owner has stripped the threads in the inlet, which also explains small the boost leak!

So no inlet manfold... cheap though. As thats coming off may as well change the glow plugs in time for winter for some Beru ones.

Finally its got an intermittent starting issue which appears to be electrical in nature. Luckily I have a spare brand new starter at home from the 110. So Ill swap that out at the same time! Along with a few new earths.

Busy busy!

Finally sorted a proper snorkel for the D2!

3.5" Stainless

Bit of a different approach to most, as I wanted it hidden within the wing. Took a bit of trial and error to get it right. Turns out a Tight 90 cut in half works perfectly.

It is very tight but if the inner wing support is removed then a 3.5" snorkel with *JUST* fit. So much so I still have some panel gaps to sort out.

Dont worry the zip tie has been replaced with a stainless bracket pinned into the wing, also supported on the A Pillar. Fabbed a bracket and 3 M6 rivnuts later its solid.

Comined with the new airbox and the huge ITG cone filter it can definitely breath! Theres quite the induction noise!! :D cant wait for the VNT!!!

I do need to trim the wing a little more, close up the panel gap but I will sort that when I paint it.

Just got to shot blast it, ready for an HVLP coat of Raptor!

Needs must for now! Off to Wales in 2 weeks and it will be wet!!!

What studs pal, the same ones that Alive sell? They're all made by the same specialist engineers down south anyway - I bought mine direct... will probably fit them again now that I know the trick to getting a good torque (don't bottom out the studs basically).

Yeah similar from a different company though. Mind PMing me the deets? Rather go direct!

Had a busy couple days! Getting the D2 up to scratch.

Radiator had a small leak, so changed that for a new Nissens one + a genuine Thermostat and some fresh red OAT. Also fitted the Gore coolant block at the same time, as the original was also leaking

Inlet manifold was also leaking and threads stripped on the EGR blank. So new inlet + elring gasket. I was meant to do the glow plugs for good measure but I forgot

Been having an intermittent starting issue as well, very infrequent. Its as though the starter was disconnected.

So replaced that too with a new Denso and checked over the wireing. All looked fine so hopefully thats solved!

Current thinking is the fan is stuck on.

Removed it from the drive home/to work and temp comes up much faster and stays at around 88 - 95°. No long fluctuating, so got a new viscous fan.

Also thinking the stack sender is reading correctly, as it earths through the block, but theres a gasket in the way so cant see the eathing being that great. Will swap the M22 to 1/8NPT adapter to an M22 sender so it sits better, then run another earth for that.

Empire VNT has been built! Cant wait!

CJM Manifold ordered - Expensive yes but I went through 3 dewebbed ones on the 110 which is the same cost of the CJM... without the work.

Along with Wurth studs and M8 19mm stainless spacers, helps to keep any warping under control.

Also got all the various water lines, oil drains and silicone hoses needed for the upgraded.

I was never really happy with the multi join silicone hoses oil drain I had on the 110 so this time have an M22 x 1.5 AN10 45° swivel for the block side, 14mm ID stainless braided hose up into the turbo. Should be much neater, much cleaner and less prone to leaks.

Cant forget the 3" down pipe! Wont forget to weld the flexi in this time

Unfortunately due to various commitments wont actually have time to fit it until November :(. At least it gives me plenty of time to let things arrive and check it all over.

Had a great time in Wales. Lovely going in the D2, very comfortable trip indeed.

Took all the water crossings well, except for one which looks like the water shifted my rad into the fan causing it to leak heavily. Ended up driving the whole day with no coolant! however the frequent water crossings and chilli weather kept it cool all day, never got above 60° so I was very lucky! Only noticed about 10pm when my heaters where ice cold.

Queue a 60mile tow home by a mate, very kind!

Who then also went off to Foundry the following day to get me a new rad. Fixed the following morning. :D

Snorkel & airbox worked perfectly as well, not a drop of water anywhere.

Also very impressed with the Radar tyres, did everything with ease.

Probably pointing out what you already know, but the temp relies on a coolant flow, so if there is none, then it's likely just heat soak from the outlet metal on metal. ie not to be trusted...

Looks a lovely background where exactly did u go, ide like to get out on some away days next year

Interesting thread. Cat a write off is bullsh1t. Sad what happened.

If i want more power i would need a modified gear box. Too much for me.

My ARBs do not limit axle articulation at sll.

Yeah its horrible and sh!te but hey ho!

The standard boxes take a surprising amount of power before anything goes wrong. My 110 had 230/550mm running through a stock box until an Ashcroft box came up cheap.

Mates 90 has 220bhp/500nm on 35s no issues either.

Just swapped the LOF powerslave for a standard AP slave, super easy job thanks to the Pioneer4x4 braided line! Took all of 5 mins to bleed and 10 mins to swap over.

Pedal is obviously heavier now but gear changes much improved. Will give it a 1000miles or so till the clutch is full bed in and Ill be able to swap back.

Also had a Slickshift fitted at the same time, much more positive feel to the box than before. Not quite as noticeable as a Defender but still better.
